Samsara Pole Studio is an Aerial Pole Arts School.
Students learn aerial spins, climbs, and eventually may progress to inversion work (upside down). This work is rigorous. Like all other forms of aerial work, pole carries risk of injury. Every student enrolling in the school must attend an Orientation or have a long private lesson to learn the basics of the work and be assessed.
The Orientation time is wonderful for both of us. My potential students get the opportunity to see if they like the work, the studio, and me. When I assess you I am looking at your health and movement history, checking for physical issues with potential for causing problems like posture, range of motion, past injuries or surgeries, overall strength and coordination, and if we click as student and teacher roles together.
Students attend classes by the month. Levels are broken into Intermediate and Advanced. Intermediate Aerial Pole is the first level a student comes into after her Orientation or private lessons. Students stay in this level for a long time. There is a lot of work to learn, and many emergency exits to perfect before students are considered for Advanced Aerial Pole.
The studio has 2 center poles for bigger work, and 3 perimeter poles for smaller work. I limit class size to 4 to 5 women.
Intermediate Aerial Pole students can enroll in Tuesday evening classes. Class runs from 5:30-7:00.
Sometimes morning classes are available, check with the studio for current schedule or go to http://samsarapilates.livejournal.com where the studio posts schedules, videos, whatnots.
Students in Intermediate level practice most spin patterns and combo spins, work on pole climbs and sits, and prepare their body for the potential of advanced work.
Much of this video is Intermediate level (except the Catch Behind or Reverse Grab spin and the inverts).
Advanced Aerial Pole students attend class on Wednesday evenings 5:30-7:00.
Students in Advanced level practice advanced spins and more complicated combinations, develop more climbing and sit patterns, and work on inversions (upside down work).
This is my dear friend Jill and I practicing duo tricks. This gives you some idea of what it is like to play in the Advanced level class.
And, if you want to know what I dance like, here I am : )
